Artwork:
A Wisconsinite all her life,
Valerie was raised in Racine and has resided in rural
Necedah for some 30 years. She has mothered and raised
five sons and is the proud grandmother of twenty-three
grandchildren. She has had an avid interest in the
fine arts since her formative years, from pouring small
molds in plaster to sketching with charcoal pencil and doing
portraits in colored pencil. She also has done dress
designing, sewing, quilting and needlework of various kinds.
Valerie's mother had a very artistic nature and imparted to
her oldest daughter (the eldest of seven children) at an
early age many domestic and artistic skills.
Since her sons have now grown to
adulthood, Valerie takes great delight in painting colorful
oils on canvas, using brushes and a palette knife to achieve
the desired effect. In pleasant weather she enjoys
pleine-aire painting. Her favorite subjects are
landscapes, florals, still-life and portraits, often
including sacred images. With such diverse subject
matter, her challenge is to acquire accuracy in color and
texture. She prefers the Victorian era to any other
and endeavors to incorporate this time period and style into
many of her paintings. Focusing on the good and
beautiful things found in this world, she is motivated to
share with others the beauty and stimulation of nature which
represents God's honor and glory. In her opinion, the
gifts God offers us are meant to be developed and shared.
Therefore, she hopes to spend her "golden years" as an
artists, painting and selling her work.
In addition to her original oil
paintings, Valerie offers quality prints, framed and
unframed, as well as a variety of note cards bearing her
attractive and whimsical images. To purchase any of
Valerie's artwork, please contact her by phone or by
mail (see above). All prints are quality giclee
prints, sized 11x14, and are priced at $20.00 plus shipping.
