Artist Statement:
The birdhouse gourds are
painted with acrylics and have a protective coating. I
paint freehand (no stencils or patterns), drawing on my love
of bird watching, gardening and animals in natural settings.
I am a self-taught artist who, through trial and
tribulation, has developed a nice hobby. A
couple of award-winning exhibits have also been an
encouragement. Hand made wooden bird houses are also a
favorite to paint and the wrens love them.
In the summer months I do not have time
to enjoy painting. My husband, Joe, and I are small
acreage farmers. We own "Pine Creek Farm", where we
raise pasture-fed lambs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits and a
few ducks and geese. We have "layers", too, for brown
eggs. Our naturally-raised (free range) chickens and
turkeys are a big success making it necessary to increase
production each year. Orders are taken in the spring
and filled as the birds grow and mature. It takes 9
weeks to bring out birds to 6 - 7 pounds. The turkeys
take 3 months. The asparagus and rhubarb season also
keep me busy.
Living this kind of life is very
rewarding. We have lots of families who come to visit
with treats for the donkeys, horses and sheep. They
stay for a while and enjoy the farm as much as we do.
If you visit Baraboo, stop in - the
coffee pot is always on! More information on our
products and phone orders are always welcome.
