Biography:
As a child, Monica enjoyed
being outdoors and drawing nature. These passions
stayed with her through high school and college, where she
earned a B.A. in Art Studio. Wanting to continue her
study of the natural world, she came to the Morton
Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, where she discovered that
the Botanical Art Certificate Program was the perfect way to
meld her enjoyment of art with her love for nature.
Monica graduated from the program as a Certified
Botanical Illustrator in September 2000. She
currently teaches "Begin to Draw", "Colored Pencil" and
several "Mixed Media" courses for the Arboretum.
When not in class, Monica works at home
as a freelance artist. She has shown her work
nationally and has earned several awards. She is an
active member of several art organizations including: the
Nature Artists Guild of the Morton Arboretum, the Colored
Pencil Society of America and the Sauk County Art
Association. She and her husband are rehabbing a
Centennial farm located in Vernon County. In November
2007 Monica and her husband began living at their farm full
time and it is now their permanent home.
In the near future, Monica will be
offering the following adult art classes in her farm art
studio: Pencil Drawing, Colored Pencil, Garden
Journaling, Botanical Illustration and Mixed Media.
She creates a welcoming atmosphere in her classes, where
students feel safe to explore and develop a personal style
of drawing, identifying their unique artistic strengths and
building on them. Although many students come to the
first class feeling apprehensive about their skills, after
five weeks they feel confident and are asking for "more."
Monica happily encourages her students to express themselves
in their own unique way.
Monica sells her originals, Giclee prints
and note cards at the Cornerstone Gallery in downtown
Baraboo, The Bindley Collection at Hilldale Mall or by e-mail inquiry.
